frequently asked questions

What is Challenge 26?
Challenge 26 is a triennial (every 3 years) County Camp organised by Central Yorkshire Scouts for all sections and districts in Central Yorkshire, it has run previously in 2023, 2017, 2014 and 2011.

When does Challenge 26 take place?

Challenge 26 takes place from the evening of Friday 10th July 2026 until the afternoon of Sunday 12th July 2026

Where does Challenge 26 Take place?

Challenge 26 takes place in a large, tented village created on the Bramham Park estate near Wetherby, this is the same location where the annual Central Yorkshire ‘Junior Warrior’ Event is held.

Who can attend?

Everyone from Central Yorkshire Scouts can attend; Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Network and Adult Leaders.

Can Parents/Guardians attend Challenge 26?
Parents without a Scouts role can attend to help your group or district facilitate attending the event, for example to ensure adequate ratio numbers, provide personal care for a specific member of the group or to help with group or district catering. Anyone who is staying overnight will require a valid scouting DBS check in advance of the event. For a Parent/Guardian this would mean adding them as a ‘Non Member – Needs Disclosure’ on the membership system and processing an Atlantic Data DBS Check

When does the booking need to be made by?

We are currently asking for groups to enter an expression of interest, this is to gauge how many people will be attending from each group, expressions of interest require a £50 per group deposit to be paid. An Expression of interest and deposit payment secures your groups place at Challenge 26 but is not a firm commitment on any specific number of attendees.
Firm Bookings will open early in 2026.

Do I need a ‘nights away permit’ in order for my group to be able to attend Challenge 26?
One member of your group will need a ‘Campsite’ level nights away permit and a Nights Away Notification will need to be submitted in the usual way.

If your group doesn’t have anyone with a ‘Campsite’ level Nights Away permit you may be able to liaise with another group in the same district to camp alongside them and share their permit. If you are struggling to find a permit holder to enable your group to attend Challenge 26 email challenge26@cycscouts.org.uk and we will do our best to assist you.

I’m a parent and my young person's Scout group hasn’t mentioned anything about Challenge 26 yet!
As we are only asking Scout Groups for expressions of interest at this point your young person's group might not have yet released information to parents/guardians. Rest assured we will be encouraging and assisting where needed to enable as many groups to attend as possible.

Our ticket fees are as follows:

2-night participants £55 1-night (Saturday - Sunday) participants £50 Day visitor participant £35 Leaders: £10

When will bookings open?

Firm bookings will open on 1st February 2026.

What is included in cost and what is not included:

Cost includes all activities for participants, but does not include transport or food, for which Groups and Districts will add their own charges.

I have a different question that I can’t find the answer to!
